It's Almost Halloween...

and I have one more project to show you.  I've been playing with my new Sizzix Pop 'N Cuts base and decided to make a Halloween Card.  Here is the front:
I wanted my card to be a little bigger so I cut a 6 x 6 card base and adhered my Pop 'N Cut card to the inside.
I cut out the Sizzix Movers & Shapers Headstone Diecut  with the magnetic Movers & Shapers mini 31 in the bottom corner, using We R Memory Keepers dark purple paper.  I embossed a spiderweb with Tim Holtz's Halloween Cutouts stamp with clear ink and embossing powder, inked the gravestone with Distress ink, Seedless Preserves, mostly on the outer edges. Fill the "31" with Rock Candy clear crackle paint, let dry and then stain with Rusty Hinge distress stain.  I was ready to adhere my gravestone to the center pop up circle, but because the edge was not a straight edge and my piece was quite large, I adhered a piece of paper to the back.

Now watch my little video, to see the skeleton on my card!

This part is a little confusing, but Karen Burniston explains it perfectly here.  I don't know how she thinks of these things, she's amazing!  Once you figure it out, these are so fun to add to your card.

For my card front, I used Echo Park's Chillingsworth Manor paper.  The gravestones were cut out with Sizzix's On the Edge Graveyard die, then embossed with their Poison texture fade.  I heat embossed it using Ranger's Antiquities Cement embossing powder.  I sanded it a bit after and inked with Vintage Photo Distress ink.  Love this embossing powder, it looks just like stone!  The bats and tree were cut out using my Sizzlit Decorative strip, Halloween Shadows.  I also cut out a banner using my Tattered Banner Sizzlit die and placed it underneath haunted sticker.
Hope you enjoyed my card, and if you have the Pop 'N Cuts die, you have to try the spinner insert!
I did have a few more Halloween projects that I was hoping to get done , but I don't think I'll have the time to start them.  I guess I will be saving those for next year!
Until next time,

I have a tag to share with you today using Carta Bella's "All Hallow's Eve".  I love this collection!  How can you tell, I keep thinking of another project to create with it!

I used the Skeleton paper for my tag base and cut it out with my Sizzix Tag die.  The skeleton was a little longer than the die, so I kept the skeleton legs and feet on a square, cut the same width as the tag, matted with black cardstock and hung it on the end with chain links. I also die cut the 31 with Sizzix's movers and shapers spider/31 die on the bottom left side. A slit was made along the skeleton arm so I could tuck in the "Warning Toxic" sticker behind it.  All the tag edges and parts were inked with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress ink.  For the flower, I die cut three flowers (Sizzix Tim Holtz Tattered flower die) and then made an accordion flower which was punched along the edge (Martha Stewart Halloween fence border punch) before I scored it.  I then inked the edges, attached them together with a All Hallow's Eve brad.  My tag was matted with black cardstock, about 1/8" around the edges.  The word, Scary, was cut out from the "Halloween Words" paper and adhered to the bottom of the small square.  To finish off my tag, I added a few stickers, the letter stickers, ribbon, and a bit of chain across my links.

For those of you who are finished with Halloween projects and are getting an early start creating Christmas cards, here's a card made from the "Christmas Day" collection:

This is a fairly simple card, created with paper, stickers and a bit of ribbon. The card base is Carta Bella's cardstock and the Holiday Borders dotted paper is matted with Christmas Day, Snow White and Striped paper.  The yellow printed side of the Ornaments paper was die cut with Sizzix's Scalloped circle Framelits and inked with Forest Green Distress ink. The Santa, Christmas Tree circle, and stars stickers were added, along with the strip of ribbon and bow.  The colors and patterns are beautiful in this line, I hope to make quite a few more cards!

Hope you enjoyed my Carta Bella projects and make sure you visit the other designer's blogs and leave a comment on each one.  We will all be drawing a name from the comment section on our blogs, so don't forget to check in on October 26th to see if you are a winner!  Who wouldn't like a Carta Bella Paper collection of their choice?!

Spooky Tag

Actually, I should say this is the spooky tag that never ends.  I remember when my kids were little they used to love singing that song that would drive every adult crazy, "The song that never ends"

This is the song that doesn't end.
Yes, it goes on and on my friend.
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because...
This is the song that doesn't end.
Yes, it goes on and on my friend.
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because, Etc.

Or the version I say is more fitting:
I know a song that gets on your nerves,
gets on your nerves, gets on your nerves.
I know a song that gets on your nerves
and this is how it goes.
I know a song that will get on your nerves,
get on your nerves, get on your nerves.
I know a song that will get on your nerves,
and this is how it goes.
Ahh, memories!  Anyways, back to my tag.  I kept thinking of that song when I was working on this tag, because I had an idea, and when I did the first step, it looked ugly.  There's something in me that doesn't like to give up, I'm determined to make it work.  I'm like that when I'm reading a book too.  Even if it's a terrible book, I'll finish it, always hoping it will get better.  Any of you like that? So, I added another medium to my tag, still ugly, added again, and so on.  I had so much stuff on there, that I had to leave it overnight to dry.
The next morning it had curled right up.  I was not giving up.  I know I'm sad, aren't I.  Sorry, I'm rambling today, but here is the end result:
It's not a very good photo, it's very gloomy again here and extremely windy out, so I couldn't take a photo outside.  I don't know if I can remember everything I used, but I did start out with my Sizzix Tag die and white double thick cardstock.  Next I cut out the Brick Wall decorative strip from cardstock, poked out all the bricks, and used the remaining strip as a template for my molding (or modeling) paste. I thought it was black molding paste I had, but it turned out it was black gesso, so I mixed the two together and applied it to the left side of my tag.  I put it on quite thick with a spatula and spilled it over on the inside.  Hey, it's all coming back to me!  I forgot, I added in some Rock Candy crackle paint as I was applying the paste, so it didn't quite mix into the paste.  My original thought, was to have some of the brick areas transparent.  Didn't quite work out how I wanted (this how it all started!).  I inked the white areas of the tag with Antique Linen, Rusty Hinge, Frayed Burlap, maybe some Twig, Seedless Preserves and Persimmon Distress ink.  I wasn't happy with the bricks, so I covered them with  Rock Candy crackle paint and after it dried, Frayed Burlap and Rusty Hinge stain.  Now you know my secret, I really have no plan when I'm creating, I just keep adding and playing until I'm either happy with it or I have nothing left to try.  I think that's the beauty of all these new products now, they all work together so well.  The last thing I added to my bricks was some copper perfect pearls(powder mixed with a tiny bit of water on my craft sheet).  The Tim Holtz Holiday Lamppost was cut out with black chipboard, embossed with the Tim Holtz Cracked Texture Fade embossing folder, covered with Rock Candy crackle paint and a bit of copper Perfect Pearls.  I cut out a small piece of paper from my Tim Holtz Seasonal Kraft Resist and a small piece of acrylic (colored with yellow alcohol ink) and adhered both of these to the back of the lamppost light.  The bats, small squares of paper, and the cat were also cut out from the Kraft Resist paper.  The cat was embossed with purple embossing powder (a few times) and while still hot, stamped with a Tim Holtz poison stamp.  I covered the bats with Rock Candy.  The "Spooky" word was a sticker from Tim Holtz's Seasonal Salvage Sticker book.  I inked the edges of the papers, bats, and spooky word with Seedless Preserves Distress ink.  After I finished my tag, it was matted with black cardstock and finally tulle and Autumn tinsel twine.
I told you this is the tag that never ends....
I don't know if any of you have bought the new Sizzix dies lately, but inside your package is a small square that says "The Talking Tag".  There's a free sample of one attached.  After downloading a free app on your phone, you can record anything, and when you scan your barcode tag it will play.  I stuck my barcode tag onto the back of my tag and recorded spooky halloween music, so when I scan it with my phone, it starts playing.  Isn't that cool?!   You could record your kids saying something and attach it to your layouts or record a message and attach it to a card, so the person receiving it will have a personal message from you.

So, don't throw out that little slip of paper, there's a barcode attached for you to play with!
Hope you don't mind my rambling today, and hopefully that song doesn't stick in your head!
Have a great day,

Jan

The Witching Hour...

gift box is my October project for Urban Scrapbook's Monthly Challenge.  Our kits included this Halloween line from We R Memory Keepers and lots of embellishment goodies.  There are still kits left for sale at the store and there are instructions on how to make this project included.

Also in the kit, was a small We R Memory Keeper's stamp which I used with a new product from Ranger called, "Sticky Embossing Powder".

If any of you are like me and love stamps, but seem just to collect and not use them very often; this embossing powder will change that!  When the powder is heated it turns sticky, so glitter, foil, micro beads, or flocking will stick.  I used Craft & Glitz fine glitter (my own mixture of purple and black together) with this stamp.
All the Design Team's projects are on display at the store and they are amazing!  You can also check them out here under each of our names and October 2012.  The store is all decorated for Halloween, so if you're in the area, stop by for some inspiration!
Until next time!

Boo!

Before I announce the winner of my Fa-Boo-lous prize package, here's a Halloween card:
I used Carta Bella's, "All Hallow's Eve" collection for this card.  The Boo die cut is Sizzix's Gothic Boo die cut out with chipboard and the Spooky Damask paper.  After covering my chipboard with the paper, I sanded the edges and inked them with Black Soot.  Next I covered the whole diecut with Crackle Glossy Accents and immediately sprinkled Clear Micro Beads on top.  I love this effect, it gives it a very vintage look. I used an EK Success punch on my orange paper, Craft and Glitz glitter on the black cardstock mat, and to finish it off, Prima black bling and stickers from the Carta Bella All Hallow's Eve collection.

Now on to my winner, which was selected using the random number generator: #4

It's a Fa-Boo-Lous Week!

Over at  Happy Life, Crafty Wife, Tamara is hosting a Halloween Inspiration week.  Not only is there tons of inspiration, but lots of prizes all week!

The girls at Carta Bella have joined in on the fun, with projects using Carta Bella's collection, "All Hallow's Eve".   I have made a few projects with this line, and I seriously love this collection!  It's what I like to call, "Sophisticated Halloween." So with that in mind, I created this sophisticated Halloween mask:
It started off with a plain mask purchased from Michael's.  I covered it with the patterned paper, All Hallow's Eve.
When covering objects that are not flat, I find paper can be manipulated a little easier when it's wet.  I usually wet it with warm water and then blot it with paper towel, leaving it damp.  Using liquid glue, cover your base, leaving about 1/4" to 1/2" extra paper along the edges, to fold over to the back of the mask.  You will probably have creases around the nose area, but these can be camouflaged with bling and stickles.  I stickled around the eyes and a little bit around the nose with Bronze Stickles.
I cut diecut flowers with Sizzix's Tattered Pinecone die.  The large flower was an accordian flower, punched along the edges.  The branches surrounding the flower, were cut out with Sizzix's On the Edge Twigs die.  Add in some Carta Bella pearl and rhinestone brads, sticker for the centers, Prima bling, dollar store spiders and a few feathers, and your mask is almost complete.
The long strips are papers from the collection, cut out with the Sizzix Vintage Lace die and tattered banner die.  I wrapped a piece of dowel with Tim Holtz tinsel, and hot glued the stick and strips of paper to the back of the mask.  To finish off the back, I took strips of printed tissue and glued these randomly all over the back.
Just a word of warning, making these masks is addictive!
Head over to Tamara's blog and leave a comment today to win this prize package!
There's lots of goodies in this package, love those muslin bags, great for altering!

Before you leave to check out what the other designers on FaBooLous Inspiration Week have created, leave a comment here to win this Carta Bella collection kit!  Winner will be announced at the end of the week.
Have a Fa-boo-Lous Day!

A little bit of Christmas, a lot of Halloween...

Before I get right into Halloween, I have a Christmas tag to share with you.  Did you know that Basic Grey has embossing folders and dies made by Sizzix?  I used Nordic Sweater from this set of two embossing folders; the nordic sweater and cross-stitch, which also has a bonus dove sizzlit die included, for my tag:

I used smooth white cardstock for my tag and elements. After cutting out the tag with Sizzix's tag die, I cut out the doves using the bonus sizzlit.  After these were cut out, I embossed the whole tag.  With a piece of lightweight acrylic, I cut out another tag and two doves.  Ranger has a new Emboss It Dabber
which I used around the edges of the acrylic doves. Then I used my new favorite medium, Sticky Embossing powder, which when heated turns sticky!  I sprinkled on Clear Rock Candy Dry Glitter on the sticky parts.  The acrylic tag was sewn to the back of the embossed tag.  The edges of the cardstock tag were embossed with the sticky powder and sprinkled with the clear Rock Candy Glitter also.  I glued the acrylic doves, with Glossy Accents, in the cutout dove areas on the tag. It doesn't show up as well in the photo, but you can see through the doves.

For the final touch, I cut out Sizzix's Tattered Pinecone and Festive Greenery from white cardstock and after adhering to the tag, covered with Rock Candy Crackle paint and Rock Candy Dry Glitter.  I added ribbon and tulle to complete my tag.

And now on to Halloween!  This week I am a guest designer here:

There will be lots of inspiration and prizes, a great way to start off October!  It all starts on Tamara's blog, Happy Life Crafty Wife with her "Ghostess with the Mostess' Challenge" today.  Here's a sneak peek of my project which goes up tomorrow:

Have a great day and see you tomorrow!
